How do I change my IP address?
There are many different reasons for which users want to change their IP address. Some of the most common reasons are stated below:
- Protection from other users
- Anonymity
- Dodging another user, company or any malicious program
- Network issues like network conflicting
- Accessing networks that require particular IPs
- Accessing information which is blocked by your IP
Important points to remember
- Before you indulge yourself into deliberating IPs you must have knowledge about following:
- You must know what IP is, what it does, how the two types (Static and Dynamic IP) differ from each other, subnet mask and default gateway.
- Next you must know that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) gives you an IP by default, when you log onto internet.
- You also need to clear about what type of address you are changing: Static or Dynamic. Both have their own characteristics.
- A general basic knowledge of networks and how they operate is also required. Remember, you don’t have to be a pro, just little know-how of how these things work will be adequate.
How to change Windows IP address?
To change your IP address from your LAN (local area network) you will need to follow some steps if you are a windows user. Before we move onto that, you should be aware that tampering with your IP can cause problems in your connection. Specially, if you are using a broad band connection, changing your network settings can be problematic. There is a chance that your router is assigned with a dynamic IP whereas you keep on specifying a static IP. This will cause your internet connection to suffer.
Anyways, to change your IP address if you are a Windows user, perform the following steps:
- Get to the Microsoft Windows desktop.
- Right-click on ‘My Network Places’ and open ‘Properties’.
- Then right-click on ‘Local Area Connection’ and open ‘Properties’.
- Click on ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’ and click ‘Properties’.
In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties you will see ‘Use the following IP Address’. Select that and write the new IP address you want to assign. You will also be required to enter a subnet mask and default gateway.

hi,i changed the mac address from 192.168.2.1,but after 25s rebooting of the router,it still shows the old MAC,could u let me know the solution?
You changed your Router’s MAC address? Once you do that there isn’t a need to reset your router, actually you don’t want to do that because you will just go back to your old MAC address. Simply change your router MAC address and reset your broadband modem and you will get a new IP address.
Good luck!
Hi, I’ve used internet connection wifi in static IP address. Before this I use broadband and each time I restart the modem, the IP will changing. But now, since I used this static IP modem, it always static and never change. How can I change this IP address static ? please let me know the solution of this .. Tq.
You can’t change a STATIC IP address, you need a dynamic IP address. Call your internet company up and tell them you want a dynamic IP address.
Good luck!
